Innovation Drives the Future China Wind Power Supply Chain Forum1

Organized jointly by the Chinese Wind Energy Association and NGC Gears on October 28, 2016, “Innovation Drives the Future: 2016 China Wind Power Supply Chain Forum” was successfully held in Sanya, Hainan. More than 100 representatives of machine manufacturers and suppliers for major components from the wind power industry, along with famous domestic experts, met to discuss the current and future conditions of the supply chain of wind power equipment in the PRC market. In addition, they contributed ideas and solutions for the development of the wind power industry.

On behalf of the organizer, Dr. Gou Jianhui, Managing Director of NGC Gears, delivered a keynote address for the Wind Power Supply Chain: Coexistence of Challenges and Opportunities. By analyzing the global wind power industry, as well as the current conditions and the future forecast of the wind power supply chain, Dr. Gou Jianhui believes that the wind power industry is under pressure from both traditional fossil energy and emerging renewable energy (such as photovoltaic energy). In the PRC market, a low utilization rate of existent power plants and a shortage of funds constrain the sustainable development of the wind power industry. However, with the technical advancement and innovation of turbines and components, lean manufacturing, and constant upgrading of standardized and modular products, the wind power industry will embrace more development opportunities amid huge business opportunities in the post-market of wind power and the integration of smartization and informatization.

Dr. Gou Jianhui, Managing Director of NGC Gears

According to Dr. Gou, in the future NGC Gears will continue to focus on technologies related to gearbox and power transmission products. Driven by innovation and internationalization, NGC Gears will become an industry leader with sustainable growth.

As Mr. Liu Weifang, a senior consultant at the Chinese Wind Energy Association, mentioned in his keynote address of Where Will Chinese Wind Power in the “13th Five Year” Lead, in recent years, the wind power industry in China has experienced rapid growth as stimulated by favorable national policies and driven by the joint efforts of players in the wind power industry. To date, the industry has become the largest wind power market in the world. However, a constantly worsening situation of a low utilization rate, an increasing gap of capital subsidies for renewable energy, and other risks lurk around behind that prosperity. However, further improvement is required in the informatization of the supply chain, technological innovation, and standardization of parts in the wind power industry.

Mr. Liu Weifang, a senior consultant at the Chinese Wind Energy Association

As pointed out by Mr. Liu Weifang, 2016 is the beginning of the “13th Five-Year” plan. With the increasingly matured scale of the wind power industry during the “12th Five-Year” plan, the planning and structure of the wind power industry in the future will be even more optimized, while the project quality will be improved significantly. In addition, the operation and maintenance services will become thoroughly standardized. Policies and regulations will be gradually improved. As a result, the development of the wind power industry will gradually become stable and streamlined.

At the Forum, Dr. Wang Jianmin (Deputy General Manager of R&D Center of NGC Gears), Ms. Yi Li (Deputy General Manager of LongYuan (Beijing) Wind Power Engineering Technology Co., LTD.), Mr. Xie Qizhen (Deputy General Manager of Guodian United Power Technology Company LTD), Mr. Alan Tung (Director of Enterprise Product Information Management Department of Envision Energy (Jiangsu) Limited), and Mr. Sun Yizhong and Mr. Li Sudong (Senior Technical Managers of Wind Power Business of NGC Gears) delivered their respective speeches on NGC R&D strategies, standardized wind power spare parts, standardized turbine manufacturing, industrialized product modular design, NGC StanGear™ product platform, and so on.
